This site is set in the year 1997, during Harry Potter's 6th year of school.
Everything is canon based. The Hallows and Horcruxes exist. The main split from canon occurred at the end of the last school year.
The alternate ending is that Hermione is unexpectedly brilliant and remembers that Snape is an Order member.
They tell him about Sirius instead of breaking into Umbridge's office, getting caught, and rushing off to the ministry.
Snape alerts Dumbledore, who alerts the rest of the order. Shacklebolt sends some aurors to look for Sirius. Instead, they find a group of Death Eaters. A fight breaks out and Voldemort is summoned in the chaos. Voldemort gets the prophecy, aurors are killed, and Lucius Malfoy is seen and must now go into hiding.
Over the summer, Professor McGonagall goes to court against Dolores Umbridge on several charges of the abuse of minors within the professor’s care. The evidence stacked against Umbridge is overwhelming and she is found guilty by an almost unanimous vote. Minister Fudge, being the judge, was forced to issue her sentence. He declared that the High Inquisitor be partially stripped of her title. She was demoted back to simply ‘Senior Undersecretary’. This ruling caused quite a bit of mutterings and whispers of mistrust regarding the minister. Not wanting to risk further damage to his reputation, Fudge reluctantly decides to keep his nose out of Hogwarts business for now.
With Umbridge gone, McGonagall took up the formal position as Headmistress. Dumbledore thought it wise to remain on the run from the authorities. The ex Headmaster adopted an original disguise by the means of glamours. He can often be seen flitting in and out of Hogwarts. Secretly, he is continuing his work on locating the Horcruxes, while periodically relaying the information he has found to Harry. Dumbledore manages to locate the ring Horcrux. He is lulled into putting it on and, in doing so, seals his own fate. Dumbledore is currently tracking down Slughorn, while Lucius Malfoy is tracking down Dumbledore.
Meanwhile, at Hogwarts, students go about their daily lives. Severus Snape remains an unquestioned spy for the Light. The real Mad-Eye Moody takes up the post as the Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher. Hagrid regains his job as the Care of Magical Creatures Professor. In order to keep closer to safety and to feel useful, Sirius takes the vacant Transfiguration job, under another glamour fabricated persona.
With the Order’s innermost circle surrounding him, Harry begins his training and preparations for the upcoming war.
